Germany sets national deadlines for post-quantum cryptography migration

Germany's interior ministry (BMI), digital ministry (BMDS) and Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) jointly published a national guideline implementing the EU roadmap on post-quantum cryptography. Aimed at government bodies, companies and critical-infrastructure operators, it confirms the EU timeline: high-risk systems must migrate to quantum-safe encryption by the end of 2030, with the overall transition largely complete by 2035. The guideline calls for clear responsibilities, binding deadlines, quantum-risk assessment in risk management, early involvement of manufacturers and supply chains, and crypto-agility so algorithms can be swapped as threats evolve.
